---<br /> A cannabis smoker may have died at his home because of an acute allergic <br /> reaction to the drug, an inquest heard today.<br /> <br /> Brian Humphries, from Market Harborough, Leicestershire, collapsed while <br /> watching TV on March 30, last year.<br /> <br /> A post-mortem examination found the 50-year-old's primary cause of death <br /> was his severe asthma and lung disease.<br /> <br /> But Dr Catherine Richards told the inquest at Leicester Town Hall that his <br /> heavy use of cannabis was a "contributing factor".<br /> <br /> The drug can cause anaphylactic shock when ingested, said the pathologist, <br /> but has also been linked to allergic reactions when inhaled.<br /> <br /> It was probably the combination of the drug use and his illnesses that led <br /> to the death of Mr Humphries, she added.<br /> <br /> During the hearing, relatives of Mr Humphries said he had reduced his use <br /> of cannabis in the months before his death but added that he had been "in <br /> agony" because of his other medical conditions.<br /> <br /> Coroner Martin Symington said: "It (the cannabis use) does change the cause <br /> of death from natural to a non-natural cause of death.
